Image of Indian Land

History

The Indian Land Capital Company was created in 2005 through a collaborative effort of the Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) and the Native American Community Development Corporation (NACDC) to support and assist American Indian tribal leaders and tribal governments in recovering reservation land and important off reservation lands, as well as consolidating and more effectively managing lands within reservation boundaries. ILTF and NACDC remain partners of ILCC today.

ILCC grew out of a need identified in Indian Country for available financial mechanisms that did not collateralize or mortgage land and that recognized the sovereignty of tribes through full faith and credit lending.

Our Vision

  • To help tribes recover, manage and gain jurisdiction over 90 million acres of alienated land
  • To assist tribes in consolidating undivided interests in fractionated land
  • To eliminate checkerboarding, or mixed patterns of land ownership, on reservations
  • To help strengthen tribal communities and sovereignty
